When Jen Christianson, owner of Sweet Luna – Creative Cookies, receives a creative request, she can proudly say, “I never turn down anything.”
For example, when a parent asked for custom cookies earlier this summer before a trip to the UK, Christiansen created cookies that resembled the flag, teacup and silhouette of the Queen.
The cookies were a hit as a Liverpool family celebrated the Queen’s 70th anniversary in June. “It’s all they can talk about,” said Sussex-based Christiansen.
Christiansen launched her biscuits to the public at the Main Street Block Party in Sussex in August after planning to open a bespoke creative biscuits business and quitting her corporate job in February. This fall, she is teaching a cookie decorating class in Sussex Village.
She also made team cookies for football, each with the player’s personal name and number, and a vintage boat for a couple’s 65th wedding anniversary. She can also put together cookie bouquets and sell cookie painting kits that use food coloring.
Christianson became interested in creative cookies about 10 years ago when a neighbor held a cookie decorating demo at her home. Hobbies grow from there.
She likes the artistic side because she always likes art like painting and ceramics.
“I want to create and make people happy and make a living out of it,” she said. “I have all these creative talents and a general passion for it, why don’t I do it?”
Earlier this year, she jumped ship, leaving her 9am-5pm advertising job to pursue her dream of owning her own cookie decorating business.
“It’s important to have a plan, think carefully and believe in yourself,” she said.
“You should look up and do it.”
