The film’s attorney confirmed that Alec Baldwin will remain in the lead role in Rust as it continues filming.
In October 2021, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed on set, and the 64-year-old actor faced charges of involuntary manslaughter.
Her husband Matt will also stay on as executive producer – while Joel Souza, who was injured in the incident, will return as director.
Hutchins died on set outside Santa Fe, New Mexico, when Baldwin rehearsed firing live ammunition with a revolver.
Baldwin has denied responsibility for the shooting — saying live ammunition should not have been allowed on set and that weapons handlers are responsible for gun safety.
The film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was also charged with manslaughter.
Legal analysts believe that without evidence that Baldwin knew of the live ammunition, prosecutors could face an uphill battle trying to convict Baldwin.
An investigation by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office has yet to shed light on how the live broadcast made its way onto the film set in the first place.
Melina Spadone, a lawyer for Rust Movie Productions, told Sky News the film is still on schedule.
She added that the program would include safety monitors and would ban the use of any working weapons — live ammunition has always been banned on site.
