Observability software company Dynatrace Inc. is adding a new core technology to its flagship application monitoring platform.
Announced today, Grail aims to unify observability data from applications with security and business intelligence from cloud-native and multi-cloud environments. At the same time, Grail will retain the context of this data to provide immediate, highly accurate and cost-effective AI-driven insights and automation, the company said.
Dynatrace said the Grail will be generally available within the next 30 days. Initially, it will be used to support log analysis and management tasks, before expanding to support development, security and business analytics use cases.
Dynatrace is the creator of a software intelligence platform that simplifies enterprise cloud complexity and accelerates digital transformation. With Davis, an AI-based causal engine, Dynatrace provides not only data, but answers about software application performance, underlying infrastructure, and end-user experience. The company claims it helps organizations modernize and automate enterprise cloud operations, release high-quality software faster, and provide the best user experience for its users and customers.
As Grail joins Dynatrace’s platform, the company promises things will only get better. It said that multi-cloud and cloud-native architectures have become the backbone of digital transformation and generate vast amounts of data. If companies can make use of this data, it could become the holy grail of observability analysis, but doing so is problematic. Cloud-based data is siloed, reflecting the diverse ecosystem that created it.
Dynatrace said teams must structure this siloed cloud data in a way that reflects the questions they want to ask in the future. Unfortunately, restructuring data has always been laborious and time-consuming.
“A large and dynamic cloud-native and multi-cloud environment is an ecosystem of various technologies and services whose composition changes with it,” IDC explained. Analyst Stephen Elliott. “This paradigm makes it critical for organizations to obtain a platform with advanced artificial intelligence, analytics and automation capabilities. The platform must be able to take all observability, security and business data, put it in accurate context in real time, and Facilitate access to data-backed insights when needed.”
That’s exactly what Dynatrace says was created with Grail – a causal data lake library equipped with a massively parallel processing analytics engine that leverages the Dynatrace query language to generate context-rich log analytics. At the same time, Grail works in tandem with other underlying technologies, the company said.
For example, it can be paired with OneAgent to automatically discover, activate and detect new applications, microservices and infrastructure, or with Smartscape to continuously update a company’s full-stack topology. Finally, it also works with Davis to process information and generate more precise answers about key application performance.
Holger Mueller of Constellation Research says multi-cloud has become a reality for nearly every enterprise, so vendors helping them manage their cloud operations must adapt. “They need to create cloud operations management platforms that take advantage of artificial intelligence, big data and the new unlimited computing power of multi-cloud,” he said. “That’s what Dynatrace is doing with the new product, aptly named Grail. Let’s hope the quest for the Dynatrace Grail will be faster than the legendary Holy Grail.”
According to Bernd Greifeneder, founder and CTO of Dynatrace, organizations urgently need a more revolutionary approach to observability, security and business data analysis.
