U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband is violently attacked after breaking into his home | U.S. News

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband was violently attacked after his San Francisco home was broken into.

According to the Associated Press, 82-year-old Paul Pelosi suffered blunt force injuries in the attack.

Drew Hamill, a spokesman for Mrs. Pelosi, said: “This morning, an assailant broke into Pelosi’s San Francisco residence and carried out a violent attack on Mr. Pelosi.

“The attacker has been detained and the motive for the attack is under investigation.

“Mr Pelosi was taken to hospital where he is receiving good medical care and is expected to make a full recovery.”

It is unclear how the intruder got into the family’s home.

The motive behind the attack is also under investigation.

Mrs. Pelosi, the Democratic speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and second in line to the president, was in Washington, D.C., and had recently returned from a security summit in Europe.

Mr Hamill added: “The speaker and her family thank the first responders and medical professionals involved and ask for privacy at this time.”

Threats to politicians are at an all-time high as fears grow for the safety of MPs and their families.

“What happened to Paul Pelosi is despicable,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement.

“I spoke with Speaker Pelosi earlier this morning and conveyed my deepest concerns and heartfelt wishes to her husband and their family, and wish him a speedy recovery.”

Mr. Pelosi, who is often by his wife’s side at official events in Washington, D.C., was convicted of drink-driving after being involved in a car crash in May.

He was jailed for five days in Napa County, California, but was only allowed to serve one night.

Mr. Pelosi owns a San Francisco-based real estate and venture capital firm.
