Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said authorities did not know whether a truck driver was involved in the Monterey Park shooting during the standoff in Torrance, California.
“I would also like to point out that there is a tactical incident going on in Torrance that is being reported. People are asking, ‘Is that your suspect?’ We don’t know,” Luna told a news conference.
He continued, “As I said earlier, today, we had a vehicle that was described as a white box van, I guess you could say, an interesting van. There was also a van that looked like we were in a tow truck. City of Lens. This is a locked down suspect situation and we are working with a partner agency with the Torrance Police Department to resolve the issue. We believe there was a person in that vehicle. We don’t know what happened to them but we will try to handle it in the safest manner possible.”
Luna continued that the driver of the white van could be a suspect in the shooting, “but at this point, if we’re doing our job correctly, we’re not just looking at that situation or scenario, but we’re making sure we’re looking at every possibility.”
He asked and encouraged community members to come forward if they have any information about the shooting suspect.
The sheriff’s office released a photo of the shooting suspect on social media earlier today.
